A New Take on Barbecue
Theresa and Zack Taoushiani, who also own Bailey's Diner, mix South African, Greek and American versions of the dish to create the signature options at their new venture, Off the Bone BBQ.
After the success of their other local business, Bailey's Diner, Theresa and Zack Taoushiani opened the door to Off The Bone BBQ last week.
The new Powder Springs restaurant in the Kroger shopping center at 4400 Brownsville Road offers exactly what the name implies.
The Taoushianis' background helps create their signature cooking style, which blends traditions from South Africa, Greece and The States and is relayed through their barbecue.
They cooks their meat in a clay oven overnight, making it tender and moist. Their sauce is a very personal recipe that Theresa describes as having a tart, sweet and slightly spicy taste.
It has "everything and the kitchen sink," she said.
Along with its pork and beef barbecue, Off The Bone BBQ also serves steak, fish, fried dessert pies, and a very unique version of Brunswick stew.
The Taoushianis said that business has been good so far despite minimal advertising. They initially want to "take is slow," Theresa explained.
Off The Bone offers lunch specials and has an open ear to opinions about their very unique blend of barbecue.

I had such a great time getting to know Theresa and Nick and I will be back VERY soon to enjoy some amazing barbecue. I won't be satisfied until I try everything on the menu! Thanks for being such good hosts and letting me have an inside look at your restaurant!

Off the bone BBQ is some really good eating! Their BBQ, the chopped steak, the Ribs, the cole slaw, and the brunswick stew are amazing!! Everything on their menu is incredibly good and their prices are unbeatable. Although only open for a few weeks I have eaten there 4 times. Powder Springs there is a new BBQ place in town and they are not going anywhere with food like this! A+

I have ate at Off the Bone several times since it opened. I do not in any way agree with the 1st review.
I think this could be one of those people saying bad things in order to cause others to not go to this restaurant. It seems like it is very personal and the uneducated comment shows just who might really be uneducated here.
I personally know the owners and have had everything on the menu. They have worked so hard to make sure this restaurant is not only different, but also has great food and plenty of it. The food is "MADE FROM SCRATCH".
Each customer matters here. Every comment is taken to heart. So if your intent was to hurt someone you did do that. Zack and Teressa care. Your out and out lies about the staff telling you what not to eat is just plain mean and shows your true intent here. What you WILL NOT do is put this great restaurant out of business.
Please everyone come and taste for yourself. Lets support a local business that is truly trying hard here.

I had the privilege of enjoying Off The Bone's AMAZING ribs, glorious okra (the first time I've ever eaten okra without salt, it was THAT good!) and fried pies. Those ribs are quite possibly the best I've ever had!! I love their creativity and their use of the clay oven, it's so novel and no one else is doing it! The level of love and dedication they put into their food is astounding--I've never seen a restaurant be so dedicated to their food. Plus you really feel like family when you're there. The service is awesome, super comfortable and relaxing.
I don't usually comment on restaurant pieces or really recommend a place but Off the Bone has made me a believer. I'd recommend anyone and everyone go there--plus the owners really care about what you think and want to know your thoughts on their food. They want to be the best they can possibly be.
Ignore that stupid comment at the top...I hate that it's the first thing you see but there is absolutely NO MERIT to it and you know what, you KNOW something cool is going on in a restaurant when people make silly comments like that to try and undermine them! That person is just jealous of the awesomeness of Off the Bone :D

William, I just have to ask: Which two states haven't you eaten barbecue in, and do you have plans to complete the set of 50?

As one of those 'darned' transplanted Yankees, I am not particularly wed to a certain type of barbecue - and this was a wonderful departure! I'll be revisiting often, and highly recommend it!
