Powder Springs is set to kick off its 17th annual Independence Day Celebration at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Town Square off Marietta Street.
Admission is free, and festivities include live entertainment, food, children's activites and a fireworks show. Reserve seating is available by calling 770-423-1330.
The full schedule is:

- 6 p.m.—Music and games
- 6:15 p.m.—The GLOW Band, which plays pop songs, R&B and disco favorites
- 7:15 p.m.—Music and games
- 7:45 p.m.—The GLOW Band
- 9:15 p.m.—Patriotic program
- Dark (about 9:45 p.m.)—Fireworks
During last year's Independence Day Celebration, rain canceled the fireworks show, which was moved to Powder Springs Day in October. Out of 16 celebrations, 2001 was the only other one to be rained out.
Unfortunately for those planning on attending this year, Wednesday could see inclement weather as well.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Chances will decrease to 30 percent by 8 p.m. The high is 96 degrees, with the low at 72.
Regardless of what weather brings and when and where you celebrate, we want to see how to salute the country's independence. Send your photos and videos to email@example.com for publication, just like Teresa Elrod did of last year's Powder Springs Day fireworks.
