Connell’s .380 calibur handgun and two loaded clips were discovered at 7:40 a.m., according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Connell was arrested at 11:02 a.m. and transported to Clayton County jail, the AJC says. His attorney, Michael Maloof, told the newspaper that he expected Connell to be released on bond later in the day.
WSB-TV reported at 5:45 p.m. that Connell was still in jail.
Maloof and Chamber spokeswoman Amy Selby said the incident was an accident and that Connell mistakenly brought the wrong briefcase to the airport.
Connell was headed on a business trip, according to the Chamber.
