The city of Powder Springs came out with a new look for its website over the weekend in an effort to improve the site’s eye appeal and navigability.

The new site will soon have all the same information as the old one, but first, all the bugs have to be worked out, City Manager Rick Eckert said.

“It’s still a work in progress,” he said of the site, which went from a green theme to a blue one.

The City Council agreed in March to pay the city’s website provider, CivicPlus, slightly more than $1,000 extra a year—from $4,944 to $5,988—for the upgrade and continued maintenance.

“We felt it was worth it,” Eckert said.

The agreement with CivicPlus calls for another website upgrade at no cost in four years.

Eckert said finding information appears to be simpler, and the overall look is better.

“One thing that I’ve personally noticed is it’s easier to find things on this site,” he said. “We wanted to make it more user friendly and improve the look.

“Quite frankly our old site was a little bland. We’ve been working on improving it since I" came here in March 2010.

City officials picked the look after viewing several samples, Eckert said.
