Classes to Benefit Artist in Cancer Battle

Powder Springs resident Diane Vehar, who is in her second bout with the disease, is set to host "Art with Soul".

Three upcoming art classes in Powder Springs will benefit their teacher as she battles cancer for the second time.

Diane Vehar—a Powder Springs resident, member of the West Cobb Business Association, and the sales and marketing manager for Signs & More in Cartersville—will host and teach "Art with Soul" at her house on:

  • Friday, June 8 at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 9 at 2 p.m.
  • Monday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m.

The classes will include instruction on canvas painting. The $30 donation covers the materials and will go to Vehar's medical treatment and bills.

There are also possibilities of future classes. A silent auction of Vehar's paintings during a business association meeting is also in the works.

Vehar, a mother of three who lost her husband in 2010, is a breast cancer survivor and is now battling thyroid cancer.

"My life for many years has been an open book," she said. "Something that might be helpful to know is how much painting can reduce stress, and hanging out with friends, etc. also, so an evening out doing this is awesome.

"Don't be afraid if you aren't an artist because the main gist of the evening is to paint some stress away, and then add a focal point such as a symbol of what you are striving for in life, an inspirational phrase—short one or even one word—or a short Bible verse. Something to give you a boost each time you see it. Something to give you hope, drive and inspiration."

Attendees are asked to bring a hors d'oeuvre and their preferred beverage, including wine or beer.

RSVP to Sandy Kaechar at sandykaecher@aol.com or Rob DeSotoat at citrusolutionwcobb@gmail.com, and they will provide the exact address of the classes. For more information, contact Kaecher at 678-492-5350.

My wife and I attended this last night and had a wonderful time meeting new friends, and more importantly destressing for a couple of hours.

For some reason I think this carries on through the summer. Would someone comment and let me know for sure?
