Minimal Delays on Richard D. Sailors Parkway
Drivers on Richard D. Sailors Parkway will experience minimal delays tonight as crews continue to clean up mud that was spilled on the roadway this morning.
Updated 6:10 p.m.
Traffic on R.D. Sailors Parkway is flowing in both directions now. However, the fast lane on the parkway between New Macland Road and Old Lost Mountain is coned off while the cleanup crew continues to work. Westbound drivers should expect minimal delays.
Original story
Officials are asking drivers to avoid Richard D. Sailors Parkway today due to a large amount of mud in the roadway.
According to the Powder Springs Police Department, a “large quantity of mud” was inadvertently released from a dump truck on the westbound lanes of the parkway between its intersections with New Macland Road and Old Lost Mountain Road.
Drivers who planned to travel down that stretch are recommended to bypass the parkway by using one of two detours:
- Macland Road to Florence Road, or
- Powder Springs Road (Business State Rte. 6) through the city of Powder Springs to Brownsville Road.
Cleanup crews have estimated the cleanup to continue well into the night.
Return to West Cobb Patch for updates.

They were cleaning this up at 8am this morning. How long does it take to get rid of mud?
