Commissioner Gets Jail Time for Accepting Bribes

Former Gwinnett County Commissioner Shirley Lasseter was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison without parole on Wednesday for accepting bribes.

Sentencing was delayed until Sept. 18 for Lasseter’s son, John Fanning, and another defendant, Carl “Skip” Cain. Read more...

Police Continue Search for Missing Children

The atmosphere in the room at the Cobb Police & Fire station on Factory Shoals Road in Mableton was thick with urgency, desperation and duty early Saturday morning.

Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce was one of the last to arrive around 6 a.m. of the nearly 90 law enforcement officials from Cobb Police, Cobb Fire, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia State Patrol and the Child Abduction Response Team. Traveling Hat Raises Cancer Awareness

The "Where in the world is Heather's hat?" summer tour arrived in Marietta this week as humorist and author Michele Wendling Ryan continued her global initiative with the personal mission of raising awareness for childhood and ovarian cancers.  

Ryan, an East Cobb resident, spent some time visiting the Big Chicken in her work as MC for several Indie Music for Life fundraising events as well as Sophia's Hope, a benefit for a 4-year-old girl with a rare brain tumor who earned her angel wings. Read more...

Rokovitz Hired as Hiram City Manager

Robbie Rokovitz had already put some hours into his new job when the Hiram City Council confirmed his hire Tuesday.

Councilmen during a called meeting Tuesday evening approved a contract between the city and Rokovitz for the position of city manager. Rokovitz, who most recently served as Cedartown’s city manager, was tapped for Hiram’s city manager spot last month pending a contract between him and the city. Read more...

Waiver May Prevent Gas Shortage for Georgia

Remember those gas shortages after Hurricanes Ike and Gustav hit refineries in 2008? Did you wait in line to get gas at one of the few stations with gas? It appears that Hurricane Isaac won't have that affect, even though several fuel refineries were shut down by power outages and flooding. 

The U.S. Environmental Production Agency granted Gov. Nathan Deal's request and temporarily waived environmental requirements for gas sold in Georgia to avoid a potential shortage. Read more...
