Hillgrove Tennis in State Sweet 16
Here's what's happening today in high school athletics in Powder Springs and Lithia Springs.
There's only one team left playing tennis in the Powder Springs-Lithia Springs area this season.
If the Hillgrove Lady Hawks wants to continue their run to the state tournament, they're going to have to do something no other tennis team has done this year: beat Valdosta.
The Lady Wildcats are 20-0 on the year, which includes a 5-0 win last week over Bradwell Institute in the first round of the state playoffs. Hillgrove advanced out of the first round themselves with a 4-1 win over Westlake.
Not only will the Lady Hawks have to knock off Valdosta—the No. 3 ranked team in the state—but they'll have to do it in South Georgia, as the match will be played three and a half hours away at McKey Park.
The winner of Tuesday's match will advance to the state quarterfinals.

Hillgrove defeated Newnan 5-1 to advance to the second round of the AAAAA girls state soccer tournament.

The Hillgrove girls tennis team lost to Valdosta 3-1. In baseball, Hillgrove defeated Pebblebrook 19-1, meaning the Hawks have clinched a first round home series in next week's state baseball tournament.
