Hillgrove Student Loses Cancer Battle

The visitation and funeral for Nick Nutt, who would have been a senior in the fall, are Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Dear Hillgrove family,

As you may be aware, Hillgrove lost a very special young man on Saturday. Nick Nutt, who would have been a senior, lost his battle with cancer.

Nick was a member of the Hillgrove lacrosse team and somebody who was appreciated by all of the faculty, staff and students at Hillgrove. He was outgoing, friendly and very funny.

As he fought his disease, these qualities remained evident in Nick, and I learned that he was also a young man of very strong faith. I remember how excited Nick was when he thought that the cancer had gone into remission. However, as sometimes happens with this terrible disease, the leukemia came back and claimed his life.

Nick’s father asked us to make sure that the arrangements were communicated to the Hillgrove community. Those details are as follows:

Visitation
Tuesday June 26
5-9 p.m.
North Metro Church

Funeral
Wednesday June 27
11 a.m.
North Metro Church

The Hillgrove Student Government Association is working on some ways to make sure that Nick is memorialized at Hillgrove. Channel 5 did a special news report on Nick when he came home from the hospital last week.

Please keep Nick’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Nick Nutt, Your life is a testimony and your legacy will live forever. In your death, you will lead many people to Christ and remind us all how precious life really is. See you again someday in heaven! Your parents, your sisters and the rest of your family can be very proud of the young man you became. Rest in Peace.

The first time I met Nick in person was about a year ago when I had the pleasure of having lunch with him and his dad. What a great guy! I remember that he made some good movie recommendations. Really enjoyed meeting him. So sorry he is not with us any more be he is in a better place with his lord and savior.
