Qualifiers for the Cobb Board of Commissioners and Cobb Board of Education weren't immediately available Wednesday night.
But prior to qualifying, four candidates had announced their intentions to run for Woody Thompson's District 4 commission seat, which consists of Southwest Cobb, including Powder Springs. They are Lisa Cupid, Monica DeLancey, Michael Rhett and Connie Taylor.
Board of Education member Alison Bartlet, a Democrat, previously said she would be running for re-election. The new district maps have shifted her representation from Osborne High to Harrison, Hillgrove and McEachern high schools.
Bartlett sparked a 4-3 vote from the board to indefinitely postpone the SPLOST-funded ninth-grade center at Harrison—a move opposed by much if not all of the Hoya faithful. The school board would bring the project up again, this time voting in favor with a switched vote from member David Morgan.
Before the second vote, even Bartlett said the ninth-grade center could affect her re-election.
Bartlett's opposition inspired at least one parent to run against her. Heather Ryan, who spoke in favor of the ninth-grade center at the school board meeting April 26, has said she will run as a Republican, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.
