Independence Day Could See Rain

If the heavens do open up today, the famous Powder Springs fireworks will be moved to October.

Planning on getting out for the Fourth of July? Take your umbrella just in case.

The National Weather Service has predicted a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms, down from the 40 percent originally forecasted.

Those odds will come mainly between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m. The forecasted high is 95, while the low is 71.

The famous Powder Springs fireworks, part of the city's annual Independence Day Celebration, are set to kick off at dark about 9:45 p.m. If the show gets rained out, it will be moved to Powder Springs Day on Oct. 8.

Last year, rain canceled the fireworks show. Out of 16 celebrations, 2001 was the only other one to be rained out.
