Kemp Elementary staff, students and families partnered with Cobb County police and government officials for the Make a Wish 5k Run on Oct. 6.

Each year, the event helps fund special wishes and trips for Cobb children who have suffered grave, life threatening illnesses. Team Kemp was among 800 participants in the Marietta race, which raised enough money to grant wishes for seven children.

Their effort was dedicated in loving memory to Joshie Johnson, a Kemp first grader who lost his brave battle with leukemia in 2011. The Johnson family previously received a Make a Wish family vacation.

To promote the event at Kemp, art students created T-shirt designs illustrating the Make a Wish theme. The winning design was by Charli Kwan, whose work was printed on the event T-shirts.
