McEachern defensive lineman Darius English was honored at this week's basketball game against Hillgrove for being named to Parade's 49th annual All-America High School Football Team.

He is one of 53 seniors nationwide selected by the magazine, and the Marietta Daily Journal reports that he is the only Georgian. In the team's 49 years, 12 All-Americans went on to win the Heisman Trophy.

Only one other McEachern player has been named a Parade All-American: 1992 graduate Adam Meadows, who spent 12 years in the NFL.

At 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, English will join teammate Nick St. Germain, a kicker, next year at South Carolina. Former McEachern teammates, tight end Rory Anderson and safety Marcquis Roberts, are freshman Gamecocks.

This past season, English had 22 sacks and 100 tackles, 65 of which were solo, as the Indians finished 10-2 and were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by Lassiter, the MDJ reports. During his junior seasion, he had 73 tackles, 17 sacks and 12 tackles for loss, English's own website says.

Other awards earned by English include the Georgia 5A Defensive Player of the Year, Max Preps Air Force All-American, and Georgia's all-state team twice. He also excels on the McEachern basketball team.
