McEachern Alum Christopher Petty Dies at 43 in Triathlon
A memorial service is scheduled for today at 2 p.m. at McEachern Memorial United Methodist.
Christopher D. Petty, 43, of Smyrna, passed away Saturday while competing in a triathlon on Jekyll Island.
A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church.
Chris was born December 1, 1968 in Marietta, the son of Harold and Yevonne Petty. He graduated from McEachern High School and Oglethorpe University. He obtained his CPA designation and later earned his master's degree from Georgia State University.
Chris married Lisa Montbellier, the love of his life, on February 8, 2009, celebrating in a magical way with family and friends at Walt Disney World. While his initial work experience was with Price Waterhouse, Chris was currently employed by the Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta as manager of global programs.
Chris loved to travel internationally. He enjoyed trips to Europe and Australia, but trips to Alaska with his parents and his honeymoon to South Africa with his wife Lisa were among the most memorable.
Chris was especially close to his only sibling, his older brother Tony, along with Tony's wife Lisa and their children Trevor, Nathan, Lydia and Nicholas. Chris had also come to love his wife's family, Gina and Joey Reichenbach, their children Baron and Greta, as well as his mother-in-law Diana.
Being active outdoors was how Chris recharged. He liked almost all outdoor activities, but fishing and biking were among his favorites.
A vibrant Christian faith was a foundation of his life. He was a Methodist and attended North Point Church with his wife. Chris was loved and respected by all who knew him.
