McEachern senior forward Pachiyaanna Roberts has been named this season’s Miss Basketball, the name given to Georgia’s all-classification player of the year.
“I’m really happy and excited to get this honor,” Roberts told the Marietta Daily Journal, “but I couldn’t have had such a great season without my teammates. There’s no ‘I’ in team. I needed them with me all the time.”
Roberts, who will be playing for Syracuse next year, averaged 17.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game, the newspaper reports.
Meanwhile, Lady Indians head coach Phyllis Arthur is this season’s coach of the year, according to the all-state basketball list by the Georgia Sports Writers Association, posted on the Macon Telegraph’s website.
The Lady Indians capped off a perfect 33-0 season with a Class 5A state championship victory over crosstown rival Hillgrove in March. The accomplishment earned them a Georgia House resolution and a trip to the State Capitol.
Other locals who made the Class 5A all-state girls team include:
- McEachern senior Dominique Wilson (first team)
- Hillgrove senior Celina Rodrigo (first team)
- McEachern senior Destinie Gibbs (second team)
- McEachern freshman Te’a Cooper (honorable mention)
- Hillgrove sophomore Mackenzie Engram (honorable mention)
As for the guys in West Cobb, Harrison seniors Marshall Guilmette and Ryan Blumenthal both received honorable mention awards for the 5A team.
