The Indians will kick off their 2012 schedule like they did last year—playing one of their toughest opponents in the premier event marking the start of the Georgia high school football season.
In last year's Corky Kell Classic, McEachern triumphed over North Gwinnett, 26-17, in a game that came down to the fourth quarter. This year, they're set to take on Grayson, who shut out Walton, 24-0, to claim the 5A state championship.
The Georgia High School Association created a new 6A class starting this season, and according to Rivals.com, Corky Kell will feature five games instead of four for the first time in its 21-year existence.
The event is Saturday, Aug. 25.
The Indians will kickoff in the second game at 11:45 a.m. All of them will be broadcast live on GPB-TV.
McEachern finished last year with a 10-2 record, only losing to crosstown and region rival Hillgrove, 12-10, in the regular season, and Lassiter, 20-17, in a shocking second-round playoff game.
The Indians are part of the newly created Region 4-6A, along with Campbell, Harrison, Hillgrove, Kennesaw Mountain, Marietta, North Cobb, Pebblebrook and South Cobb—all divided into two subregions.
Here is McEachern's full schedule (all games start at 7:30 p.m. unless noted):
- Aug. 25—Grayson (Georgia Dome at 11:45 a.m.)
- Aug. 31—Walton (Home at 8:30 p.m.)
