What's happening in downtown Powder Springs?
Lily Torte Baking Co.: First off, the secret is out! We are getting cupcakes. The opening date is yet to be announced, but the restaurant at 4469 Marietta St., last know as S2 Seafood Soiree, is being turning into Lily Torte Baking Company.
Oh, and my the cupcakes are divine!
This duo of cupcake divas stopped in and let us merchants sample their wares. The pretty packaging told us that they have their act together, and if the cupcakes were as delicious as the packaging was gorgeous, they would be a hit.
Guess what? Yup, you guessed it: They were fabulous! Stay tuned for more updates, but in the meantime, you can keep up with them on Facebook.
The Country Store of Seven Springs: The store is keeping you from starving after hearing the above description by continuing the weekly delivery of fresh bakery items from McEntyre’s Bakery in Smryna. Thursday is the day the country store gets its fresh delivered goods, and, wow, did they sell out fast the last two weeks. Don't delay—get to the store for delicious 6-inch cakes:
- Red velvet.
- Old-fashioned caramel.
- Raspberry fudge.
The store also has McEntyre's famous cheese straws and the ever-popular apple bread and pumpkin bread.
Powder Springs Florist: The store is the place to get your Mother's Day orders, so think ahead. And how about Father's Day, graduation and birthday flowers? Well, you get the picture.
Did you know the store has an array of local artists' works as well? And from personal experience, I can tell you they do beautiful floral arrangements for weddings. Stop in for a browse soon.
Hand-Me-Ups: The store is waiting for you to start your spring shopping. It's packed to the walls with new arrivals and with more to put out daily. There is always something new in the store, so you will never find the same items from week to week.
Don't forget they have accessories, too. Handbags, shoes and jewelry will make your outfits complete. Find them on Facebook.
Tea at Seven Springs: The restaurant is the place to go when you just want to stop and find some peace in the world. With its lovely tables set daily with flowers and lace tablecloths, you are transported to a tranquil getaway and can enjoy time with a special friend or gathering of 25.
Now taking reservations, owner Joan Evans and her gang are awaiting your call so your table isn't taken when you stop by. Whether it's a cup of tea and a scone or a yummy chicken-salad sandwich that you crave, stop in soon. Find them on Facebook.
The Book Worm Bookstore: The store is in the midst of a makeover. Just in: handmade leather journals and paper and hand-woven bindings that make you feel as if you traveled back in time.
Authors will be in the house Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. Come meet Lewis McNeely, author of WonderDads; he can show you the best places to go and what to do with your kids in metro Atlanta. Yes, of course The Book Worm Bookstore made the top 5!
Also, J.D. Powell will show you all the places you can go day-tripping in Georgia. Why try to figure these things out on your own? Let these dynamic guys show you the way. Find them on Facebook.
Powder Springs Coffee and Bake Shoppe: The shop has been well received. Thanks to all of you who issued the call: "We need a coffee shop downtown." You got what you wanted.
So many have already discovered the shop and sampled its wares of hot coffee, French-pressed and brewed; Italian sodas; and that yummy (and addictive) hot chocolate. It's now also serving soup and sandwiches, as well as lots of yummy treats.
Don't be a fool today for April Fool's Day—stop in for a coffee or come try the new smoothies, which make their entrance in flavors of pineapple, strawberry and fourberries. If you want fattening, sweet, syrupy concoctions, don't bother because they're the real thing with only fresh ingredients. They will not show up on your hips and thighs. Find the shop on Facebook.
PearTree Interiors & Gifts: If you are looking to add some new life to your old home decor, why not stop in and spruce up your home for spring by bringing the outdoors in? New live florals, wreaths, bird nests and cages just came into the store. Find the store on Facebook.
