Police: Sitter Stole from Powder Springs Mom
The baby sitter's reward was a birthday behind bars.
An Acworth woman spent her 20th birthday in jail after being arrested on charges of stealing from a Powder Springs woman who hired her as a regular baby sitter.
Stephanie Romain of the 6200 block of Braidwood Run in Acworth has been in the Cobb County jail since Feb. 21 on six counts of theft by taking and six of theft by deception, according to jail records.
Eight of the 12 charges are felonies, and she is being held without bail.
Cobb County police said Romain stole jewelry worth $7,470 and sold it at a cash-for-gold store in Acworth, The Marietta Daily Journal reported.
The thefts occurred Feb. 7, 10, 15 and 16, according to jail records.
A Powder Springs woman had hired Romain on Jan. 30 to baby-sit her children while she worked, the MDJ said. The mother discovered Feb. 18 that jewelry was missing from her bedroom.
Romain’s birthday was Feb. 26.
