Poll: Should Powder Springs Gun Range Serve Alcohol?

Vote in our poll, then explain your vote in the comments.

The Powder Springs City Council last week voted 3-2 to grant an alcohol license to the Governor's Gun Club, being built at the corner of C.H. James Parkway and Sterlingbrooke Drive.

The vote has grabbed local and national attention, and caused debates on safety and whether possible risks outweigh offering members the option to drink.

The small selection of alcohol would be served during the hours allowed by Powder Springs law and in a lounge secured with a special key given just to members. The only people under 21 who could enter are the children of members, and they wouldn’t be allowed to drink.

Guns would not be permitted in the lounge, and once inside, customers couldn’t return to the shooting range. A gun valet system with lockers will be available, but customers could still exit the building with their weapons.

I will be vote number 5 as it currently stands and the deciding vote to this point. I am in favor of it and I am not a drinker, never have been. When everything you do has to be decided by a group majority, something is drastically wrong. There will be severe limits on the drinking as I have understood it and it is not a bar, it is a shooting range. What's the difference if you take a drink just after shooting, sans your firearms or drive to the nearest bar with your firearms? Get control of yourselves people and stop trying to regulate everything!

This makes a nice headline and I saw it on the national news...........they couldn't resist. The rules that I read sound like they'll be much better than any other places that serve alcohol. I imagine any problems we have in area establishments that serve alcohol will contnine to be much more prevalent than this facility. The area country clubs serve alcohol in their grills, as well as sell it on the golf course. Haven't heard of a problem with that.

I am an avid shooter and I don't think alcohol and guns mix. I am glad to see a facility open for people go shoot. The Liberals are trying to take away our rights anyway. I only hope there is a limit to the alcohol served. I also hope they have instruction classes for people to learn to shoot properly and learn safety.

I voted YES but this is not in any way, shape, or form a constitutional issue! Shame on the Patch for presenting it as one.

Any gun owner can stop at any restaurant or bar that serves alcohol after going hunting or visiting a shooting range. No reason to fret over that fact. And anyone, whether or not they are a gun owner, can drive to and from any establishment that serves alcohol. A car is a far more dangerous implement than any gun. Yet there is nothing per se dangerous about driving to/from an establishment that serves alcohol. Just don't drive under the influence. And don't manipulate a firearm under the influence.

Ah yes the chattering, nitwit, know-it-all's have to project their failings, fears and lack of self control onto others. Normal, everyday Americans don't need their lives micromanaged, guns owners as a group, are ever mindful of their responsibilities to themselves and society, more so than national news anchors, tv reporters, politicians or community organizers.....

The rules regulating this combination of activities are more responsible than any sports bar, tavern or restaurant I have ever been in. With proper supervision, this could be a great combination. Oh, and I am not a drinker.

I see way more regulation here, then the government has. I believe this is a good bussiness idea. And the way they will have it set up to be safe and secure. If you don't agree with it your entitled to your opinion, but dont try to sway mine or anyone else's who like the idea.

Great points above. I vote 'yes' and remain confident that actions will speak louder than words. I believe the management team and full metal jacket members are up to the task of shutting all this noise down by making it a non-issue in the end. - A responsible gun enthusiast.
