Readers Choose Tellus for Nearby Getaway
The Cartersville science museum is your pick for a family-friendly place to spend time on a staycation.
It appears that when you want to get away without really going away, you go to Bartow County.
In this week’s regional Readers’ Choice survey of staycation destinations, three of the top four vote-getters are Cartersville sites: Tellus Science Museum, Pine Mountain Recreation Area and Booth Western Art Museum.
And even though six of the 19 poll options are in Cartersville Patch, commenters complained about a couple of the Cartersville sites we left off the list.
So it’s only fitting that this week’s Readers’ Choice for favorite staycation destination is in Cartersville: the Tellus museum.
Sweetwater Creek State Park in Douglasville Patch actually received the most votes, getting 27 percent. But we give equal weight to reviews and ratings of the directory listings, and Sweetwater Creek received none.
Tellus, which finished second in the poll, also finished second to the Booth museum in the number of five-star ratings this week. That combination gave Tellus the win.
"A selection like this means a lot because we wouldn’t be doing what we do without the support of the community," said Joe Schulman, the museum's director of marketing. "Thank you to everyone who has visited the museum and let others know about us. We look forward to many years of educating our visitors while at the same time having fun."
Thanks to everyone who voted, rated and commented.
Next week we’ll help everyone get ready for summer by tapping into the hottest trend in cold refreshment, frozen yogurt. To be sure your favorite fro-yo place makes it into our Readers’ Choice poll, mention it in the comment section of this article by 5 p.m. Sunday.
