State Of the Union Address 2013: Online News and Reviews (With Video)

President Obama made his address Tuesday. Share your reaction.

President Obama made the first State of the Union speech of his second term last Tuesday. And there was lots of news coverage and analysis.

"We can’t just cut our way to prosperity," the president said in Washington.

Also, as the New York Times noted, there was no new stimulus plan, no mission to Mars, no ambitious plan to address the hangover from the housing market crash.

Here's a sample of news coverage of the president's speech:

I expect him to do whatever it takes to stand up for the middle class and the poor against the vested interests of Wall Street and big corporations. Raising the minimum wage, stopping deportations, Immigration Reform, restoring labor rights, eliminating corporate tax loopholes (which will produce millions of dollars to prevent drastic cuts), dismantling the prison industrial complex, reforming gun laws are all a start.

Richard,
All that sounds good except him embracing the same sex unions! That's what turned my dislike against him!

The middle class is just a word this "president" uses to step on. He has no more concern for the middle class with the exception of low information middle class as to get him elected! Gun control to him is only for the collection - it has happened before and he is salivating for a return. Fear is something the devil uses and the president and his ilk are taking a page right from his playbook. Quit being sheepeople and educate yourselves.

Do we want real reform? Lets start at the top -not the rich guy via taxes, but the lobbyists and others that rape and pillage our country, skew the law in their favor to protect their profits, while continuing their systematic takeover..
We complain about big oil turning record profits year after year, yet continue to give them a free pass to raise prices (thus profit), while their lobby continues to buy off politicians to ensure alternative energy growth is stifled.

We complain about big healthcare raising rates, but do nothing about the fact the drugs they prescribe are "encouraged" by salesmen, that the health industry spending is just as dysfunctional as military spending and the health care lobby will ensure this continues.

Big finance gets a slap on the wrist over the fraud and abuse as an industry, while they continue to manipulate rates, stocks and growth to their favor, and reap profit off gaming the system into their favor.

And forget about civil rights... The biggest lobby in the country is the religious lobby, who by God will make sure we all repent and follow dogma established thousands of years, as they steer government policy, as a "non-profit"... To me, the second you cross the line into political manipulation, you become financially invested, thus for profit..

A friend, who just happens to have a degree in political science, has long said that what this country needs is a good revolution. We may have waited too long.
