Sun Valley Beach Closed for Summer

With a non-working number and no website to be found, the reason for the closure and whether there will be a re-opening were unclear Monday.

Kids won’t be splashing at Sun Valley Beach this summer.

The water park nestled in the southwest corner of Cobb County on Holloman Road has a giant sign on the entrance gate saying: “Sun Valley Beach will be closed summer 2012”.

The park’s business license renewal was due Jan. 1, but hasn’t been fulfilled yet.

With a non-working number and no website to be found, the reason for the closure and whether there will be a re-opening were unclear Monday.

Feel free to add any additional details you have in the comments below. You can also share your favorite Sun Valley memories.

And if you’re feeling completely lonesome for the splish-splash, you can check out a Patch video on ways to beat the heat from last summer that features the park.

I pretty much grew up working at Sun Valley for 13 summers. Many memories. It's sad to see it closed.

I suppose it's closed for the same reason that so many other places are closed. There are fewer people with disposable income, so business is off, and they are taxed more to make up the difference in revenue lost from other business closings. It's a case of both ends squeezing the middle.

I think more than the economy it suffers from too many other options that were not avaliable when I was growing up in Powder Springs...neighborhood pools, the aquatic center and water parks. I think its time has passed.

I heard the owners were going through a messy divorce and that made running the park impossible this summer. Just curious, can anyone corroborate or refute this?

The owners did go through a divorce but I don't know that that had much to do with their closing. Their main problem was they simply did not know how to manage people or money or how to treat paying customers (when I say they - I mean "she"). They were constantly avoiding creditors and because of that they couldn't borrow money any longer to run the park. I doubt we will see Sun Valley come back unless it goes to a responsible person that knows how to run a business... Can you say "Murray"????

That place was so nasty last year it probably gave someone e-Coli. I took my grandchildren over there and bought passes for the summer 250.00 worth and then we went to swim well there was green slime and bowel movement in the water! Bowel movement all over the bathroom and no toilet paper! So I was totally disgusted because we as a family had so many wonderful memories of SVB! So I called and was going to go over there for my money back and Ann ran from me and would not even talk with me on the phone or in person! They have no people skills or cleaning skills for hat matter and I will just say YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW,!,,,,,

Last comment was totally uncalled for. It was not only in bad taste but totally disrepectful to the families of the unfortunate accidents. Everyone is entitled to express their opinion, however, think before hitting the submit button.

We loved this place and hope someone buys it and fixes it back up. Too awesome to let die. We were there last August and yes, it was scarey! and gross. Everyone there was talking and in shock and I heard about a divorce and the owner not caring anymore.

I hope it comes back. My kids love that place. We went last summer I didn't see any waste or nasty place. I always drive my family down from sugarloaf just to go to a beach pool. People shouldn't be happy when other people are going through a down in there marriage nor tell folks business on Internet. People always concern about the wrong things verse concern about what going to keep these kids happy.

Actually, I heard from someone that know's Ann and her family. A wealthy man has purchased Sun Valley Beach and he is going to completely renovate it during 2012 and it will open for 2013 season. I'm sure the prices will go up but I know I would be willing to pay another $10 or so for a pass if the place was completely redone and the pool was nice and CLEAN.

We are going to miss this place. Like many others here I hope that it reopens. My daughter was upset when I told her the news. We've had summer passes and was very happy up until last year. It just seemed a little run down, water slides not working, you could tell something was going on. Any other year you would see them working on the slides to make sure they were up and running, always painting them, etc. I hope that all goes & is going well for Ann and her family.

I sure hope idb97 is right. We spent at least 2-3 days a week for the past two summers at SVB and totally enjoyed ourselves. Granted, we never used the restrooms so I can't speak for that, but I never saw waste in the pool. One time it was spotted by a lifeguard and we were asked to leave the pool in order for them to clean it up. I pray blessings for Ann and her family. They have given years of enjoyment to many families. Kudos to whoever has purchased it and can make it even better for future fun. Let the Countdown to summer 2013 begin...

I hope that idb97 is correct with the info that has been posted. Our family gets season passes and spends ever weekend there. I am always taken my son along with a neighborhood friend. We were very disappointed to see the closure. I hope to see it open next year. My youngest son had planned to get into the junior lifeguard program so that he could get a job when old enough as a lifeguard out there.

Reply to Shattles:I can not agree with you more! My family had SVB passes for over 15 yrs when Murray ran it and it was an excellent place! My children grew up there however this group of people who were in management of iSun Valley had no people skills at all! They would not return calls and would run and hide from you and tell the little teenagers there to LIE to you that they were not there ! I can only say that Murray was a gentleman and kept the place spotless and very clean he was constantly walking around greeting folks and painting, cutting the grass or working with flowers or just making sure all the teens were taken care of that worked for him! I don't think it will ever be the same it is so run down now!! It just made me sick when I seen it! And I asked for my season pass money back within 24 hrs but NEVER recieved a cent because they would not talk to me! So as the saying goes --- YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW,!!!!

I also have been going there since the 70's and I am 44 as well. It used to be clean safe and white. With the demographic shift from majority white customers to foreigners due to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta my old home town is dead and gone. Another twenty years and there will probably not be any white people anymore. Last of the Caucasians...

This makes me sad as I have good memories of growing up and going there in the '70s. Most memorable of all was kissing Ken Rodriguez (then he was Kenny) when I was 14 and he was 15 - we were in the water across from the beach and under the trees. 36 years later it still makes me smile.

Omg are you people serious that place was SO NASTY I will never go back. When someone asked me about this place closing I had to look it up and I say about time. I couldnt believe how expensive it was to. Ridiculous for that price I might as well go to white water.

What do you expect when Ann no longer cared about the customers and her partner Brett or whatever is name is swindle the youngsters who worked for them out of their pay with bogus threats. Ann and Brett you deserve what you got and shame on you for witholding money from those young kids that worked so hard every summer. Did you think for one moment that what you did to those kids wouldn't come back to haunt you? You both are disgusting and classless morons who are not fit to run out of a paper bag let alone run a business.

I truly hope SV reopens in 2013. My granddaughter had a marvelous time there during the summer of 2011. She's still at an age that many more years at SV could be treasured memories. I saw some neglect in upkeep, but feel there is hope. As for descrimination accusations, I NEVER witnessed anything like that. PRF
