Tapp Employees Being Cautious After Possible Threat
Teachers are "stepping up their vigilance today" after a potentially harmful message was found on a bathroom wall at the middle school Wednesday.
Administrators found a possibly threatening message on a bathroom wall at Tapp Middle Wednesday, so today they’ve been acting with a little more caution.
School system spokesman Doug Goodwin wasn’t sure what the specific message was, but said it “could have been interpreted as being threatening.”
Other than school employees “stepping up their vigilance today,” as is procedure with any possible threat, everything is normal at the school, Goodwin said.
“It’s nothing that’s going to impact the school day,” he said.
Do you have a student at Tapp? If so, had you heard about the message? Tell us in the comments.

They need to place metal detectors at the schools.
It cost a lot of money!
But what is more important money or our kids.

It was most likely a stupid prank by a confused kid. How we react in these situations, as parents and as a community, speaks volumes about us. I feel that Tapp's administration handled the situation well.

Tapp handled a prank as though it were real in order to give the utmost protection to our children. They were up front and did not let it slide. There was never a gun, but you are right, Mr. Vesper...I believe it was basically graffiti by a kid who didn't think it would be taken seriously. Totally pleased with the way the new Principal and staff handled the safety of our children.

I don't know what was written "this time" on a bathroom wall but in the light of the school shooting in Ohio which killed three children, I thought it was interesting that one of the teachers at the school in Ohio had a bullet-proof vest in the classroom and was able to help a student in the line of fire during the shooting without being a target. Sometimes when things like what had happened in Ohio you hear the buzzing that teachers should be able to carry a weapon to defend others in an incident like this at the Ohio school. I think although you want your schools to be safe, I don't know if it is possible in these days where people fear their children being caught up in the anger of school shooter coming into the safe world of our kids growning up and causing horror. I do feel that having a bullet-proof vest available may be a wise decision in the Ohio case. We have ADE for students or teachers having cardiac episode, We practice for fire, tornado, and other emergency codes, Should we be prepared for this terror to be a possibility in our kids lives by having an emergency kit with a vest and other equiptment? .

my child goes there too and no one called parents to pick up their children. Children were texting parents to pick them up. no gun nothing....stop trying to cause a stir and stop listening to your kids obvious manipulating of the truth and get to the bottom of it.

Nobody is trying to hide anything. Middle school students are bad about spreading rumors. The school handled this situation exactly like it should be handled. One student made a stupid decision to get attention and people jump on the bandwagon to "dog" out the school. I am a substitute teacher there, my 3rd child is going thru this school and I get soooo sick of people talking negative about it. If you are that unhappy, MOVE!! And btw, Mr. Vesper is not a school employee, he is just a very involved parent at Tapp Middle School. Times like this is when we should pull together as a community, not pull apart!!!

I spoke before i had all the facts. It was actually GUNS...plural... Not just 1 that was found....In the age of technology
...kids have an AMAZING way of getting information in, around & thru adults... At the speed of sound... So i'm gonna go ahead & take my childrens word for it... My daughter is 13 @ Tapp & we have taught her about sex, guns & drugs since she was 5. We opened her eyes before the Democrats could brainwash her.

As a 7th grader i think they took it a little to serious if you go in the bathrooms so much stuff is written on the walls, so i understand why they took it to this extreme but nothing was going to happen but as far as the administration they should have notified parents because they had a right to no what was going on at their children school parents should have be notified if they were going to take it to this extreme.

Maya i agree. I excercised my 1st amendement rights @N.Ingram... & she had it deleted but it echoed your sentiment... The administration will always try to hide stuff... This is a biased partial blog... Any real journalist website will leave the positive & negative comments... Unless you are Democratic...
Which Mr. Vesper, David Norton & N. Ingram proved such to be true

Hi Ms. Hernandez, I deleted the comment because there were a couple insinuations of foul language. We are neither biased nor partial, and we do leave all types of comments, as long as they are kept civilized. I would encourage you to keep commenting, though, and look forward to you continuing to do so.

Mari Hernandez, I have no idea who you are, I did not delete your comment and I really don't appreciate the tone you have on here towards people that you don't even know!! You sound like a very bitter person. I will add you to my prayer list.

I am an involved parent at Tapp, on the PTSA and always volunteering. I would encourage parents who have children attending the school and feel that the school is hiding something or is a bad place, to take time to get involved as a parent. As a volunteer, you have the ability to influence change. The PTSA and school are always looking for volunteers. Get involved before posting negative opinions.

I'm not bitter. And the PTSA is not only place for parents to get involved so you won't know me either... I hear there is an opening at TAPP for a Principal...Nancy why don't you apply? I mean all of your years as a substitute teacher...surely you must know what you are doing. Stop playing Monday morning quarterback & step into an area where you can really make a difference.... If you were endowed with "A PAIR" that's as big as your mouth.

Ms. Nancy, I am a far better person for knowing you. Thank you for the strength and care you show our children at Tapp. Thank you for being an involved parent and role model at Tapp. You have always been supportive and you are making a difference by being actively involved in the community and at the school where your children attend.

Why Isn't anybody talking about metal detactors. This will solve100% of the problem if somebody would bring in a Knife or Gun. You can always say it was a 7th grader who made a prank but you never know what kind of thoughts that 7th greader had at the time when he or she wrote the note. Do we always have to wait until it happens and than suddenly everybody starts yelling we should have done this or that. Why not for once do something before anything might be planned. These are our kids don't take it to light it has happened in other schools and I am sure until the school system doesn't change it arrogant thinking it will happen again and again. I hate to say it but it will, of course nobody knows where and when that is why you must act now and change the system install detectors and more cameras.

Tapp Middle School Needs To Either Be Stabilized or Shut Down !

Tapp Middle School has grown and changed for the good over the past few years. Ms. Ingram is also a woman of truth and integrity. She and her husband give of their time weekly leading Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also a very strong substitute teacher. Her children have attended and attend Tapp and she is an involved parent at school and in the community...not someone who throws their opinion out but has never shown up to help at the school or be involved in a positve way with her children. Ms. Ingram, don't even try to defend yourself, your consistent character speaks for itself.

Gee, sounds pretty bitter to me as I read the comment from Marisol H. Well Nancy looks like I'm going to mash the white button and step in to help, although you really don't need any help. Your a strong Southern woman! I've have seen Mrs. Ingram on the job as a substitute teacher.. She is great! She never said she wanted to be a principal. The article has nothing to do with Mrs. Ingram being a principal.
Mr. Stone wrote in a comment that he deleted your message because it didn't conform with the guidelines of the Powder Springs Patch. There are acceptable use policies at this link for the patch. http://powdersprings.patch.com/terms There is no reason for you to become sarcastic and k not bitter but use innuendos toward this strong Southern woman who does help our children learn. Mrs. Ingram is not a substitute who would let the children to their own devices when their teacher is away for the day.She teaches! The kids respect her. The teachers and staff respects her! I respect her! Now how about you! Sure hope my being a Cobb County employee who has stood up and commented on the situation doesn't get me called into the big office. I have always felt strongly about those who do and they need to be respected.
