Woman's Club Race to Support Scholarships, Alzheimer's Association
The Powder Springs organization will host the first annual Run for the Ages on May 5.
It’s almost time to strap on your running (or walking) shoes to support local students, as well as those affected by Alzheimer’s.
The Powder Springs Woman’s Club is set to host the first annual Run for the Ages on Saturday, May 5. Events will include a 5K run and a one-mile fun run.
“Our purpose is to help the children and elderly in our community, and so we were looking for a fundraiser,” said club member June Rainwater.
Proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Association and the club’s scholarship program, which provides two McEachern High students a year with financial assistance for college.
One member’s mom passed away from Alzheimer’s, another’s dad has dementia, and yet another works at Bethel Gardens Assisted Living, where she sees the effects firsthand, Rainwater said. “That’s just something near and dear to our heart.”
Founded in 1959, the club has awarded two scholarships a year to McEachern students since 1975.
Members moved the annual spring fashion show to the fall to accommodate for the run, Rainwater said.
Registration is $10 for those in elementary school and younger, $20 for all others up to May 1, and $25 on the day of the race. The mail-in application is available here.
Checks should be made out to the Powder Springs Woman’s Club.
Everyone will get a T-shirt, children will get medals, and division winners will receive trophies.
Runners should meet at the Powder Springs Library at 7:30 a.m. The path runs down Atlanta Street and Lewis Road to C.H. James Parkway, then back to the library.
The event will happen rain or shine.
