Close to 4,000 people are set to gather in two counties to remember those who lost their battles to cancer, show support to those who survived it, and to raise money to fight the disease. Relay For Life of Cobb County will kick off at 7 p.m. at Jim Miller Park in Marietta. Country singer and former "The Voice" contestant Jordan Rager and two other young Nashville Hopefuls to go on tour in the fall.
A year ago, Jordan Rager was just coming off his stint as a contestant on NBC’s show “The Voice” and getting ready to graduate from Loganville High School. This year, he's getting ready to go on tour. According to his mother, Connie Rager, this tour is just what the young musician needs to kickstart his career. "Since graduating LHS last May, he's full speed ahead with his music career and this upcoming tour is just what he needs to continue to build his fan base with tons of college age folks," Rager said, adding he's continued to work hard. The students have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.
An exhibit featuring the artwork of Cobb County students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities will go up today in Marietta. The 'Inspired by the heART' art show will kick off with a dessert reception at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cobb County Central Library, 266 Roswell St. During the opening reception, there will be a student slideshow presentation. The exhibit will run through May 11.

Move over, American Idol. Cobb's seniors will take the stage next Tuesday afternoon in the hopes of being crowned the next Cobb Senior Idol. The competition, which is in its ninth year, allows contestants to showcase their talents in comedy, dance and song in front of judges. Those judges will select the top five contestants. The audience will decide the winner. Rehearsal begins Monday, May 6, and the competition gets underway at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, which is inside the Cobb Civic Center. Contestant applications and event tickets are available at all senior centers. Tickets are $5. For more information, call 770-528-1445.

The winner of the Patch Easter PEEPs contest is a diorama that shows a little marshmallow figure in a hard hat helping to build a home while other PEEPs cheer him (or her?) on. The entry by Stacie Stamper honors Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which helps support the nonprofit’s mission to provide decent housing for low-income people around the world. "That's so exciting. How fun is that?" Stamper said when she learned that her entry had won. Second place goes to Martin Burrow of Winder, who used jelly beans and a glass jar to create a colorful PEEPs floral arrangement. Stamper, a Duluth resident, is the donations coordinator for the Gwinnett Habitat ReStore in Lawrenceville. Habitat ReStores take donations of construction materials, …
