Gas South was among 36 companies that opened mock storefronts on Tuesday inside Junior Achievement of Georgia’s brand-new Chick-fil-A Foundation Discovery Center.
The Discovery Center, located inside the Georgia World Congress Center, is an interactive simulation designed to educate middle school students about financial literacy and adult responsibilities.
Over the next year, the Discovery Center will host more than 30,000 middle school students from the Atlanta, DeKalb County, Fulton County and Marietta City school systems. Field trips to the Discovery Center are designed to reinforce what kids learn about financial literacy in the classroom, with students taking on the role of household financial managers as they roam the 106,000-square foot facility
Gas South’s space features an educational wall display showing students where natural gas comes from and how it is used throughout the community, as well as a model natural gas pipeline and an actual gas meter. Students will learn energy saving tips, how to calculate the cost of heating a household, and the impact of natural gas on everyday life.
“Gas South has been a partner with Junior Achievement for some time, and as a company we believe in the organization’s mission to foster work-readiness for today’s students,” said Kevin Greiner, CEO of Gas South. “We jumped at the opportunity to provide a hands-on learning environment for these kids and teach them something about natural gas.”
