A Trip to the 19th Century

Friends of Sweetwater Creek State Park hosted Sweetwater Factory Days on Saturday to show what life was like during the 1850s.

Sweetwater Creek State Park was bustling on Saturday with children and adults learning skills from the 1850s, including candle making, dyeing fabric with natural dyes, butter churning and more. Demonstrations showing these tasks that people did for general survival were given by vendors and volunteers alike.

Friends of Sweetwater Creek State Park hosted the event, which was titled Sweetwater Factory Days. The organization assists in the maintenance, clean-up and promotion of the park, according to Co-Vice President John Johnston.

Johnston said he hopes Factory Days will become an annual event. There is a similar fall event called New Manchester Days.
