Free Library Programs Continue in Powder Springs

Over the next few days, four activities will be offered at the facility at the Coach Ford Center.

We're all watching our family budgets these days. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us make our dollars as valuable as possible.

Here are some that hopefully will stretch your dollars to the max:

1. Free Library Programs in Powder Springs

Deal: Over the next few days, four free programs will be offered at the .

Art Around the World is designed especially for school-age children with each program exploring a different culture in literature, music, dance and art. Hours: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday

Adults and teens can watch "Rabbit-Proof Fence" in the Foreign Film Festival for Adults and Teens series. Only ages 13 and above will be admitted to this showing. Directed by Phillip Noyce, this PG-rated Australian film concerns three aboriginal children taken by the government who escape to return to their mother. Hours: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday

The next Tuesday Special—also for school-age children—will concern Korean culture. Hours: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday 

Later that day, the Children's Foreign Film Festival concludes with "Rainbow Bright and the Star Stealer." Hours: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday 

 

2. Free Fishing Rodeo on Saturday

Deal: Cobb Parks and Recreation is set to host the free Annual Fishing Rodeo on Saturday morning in Powder Springs. Four age divisions will be offered: 3–6, 7–9, 10–12 and 13–16. Trophies will be given to first through third place winners in each division and for the Overall Big Fish.

3. Starbucks Ice Cream Coupon

Deal: You probably could guess it by the weather, but July is officially National Ice Cream Month. To celebrate, Starbucks is offering this coupon for $1.25 off any pint of their ice cream sold in grocery stores.

 

4. Mercer University Info Session

Deal: A free information session will be held Saturday morning at Mercer University  in Lithia Springs. The undergraduate and graduate programs will be discussed. Lunch will be served, so registration is requested by contacting www.mercer.edu/workingadults.

Hours: 10 a.m. through lunch, Saturday

5. Free Self-Defense Trial Lessons

Deal: Choi Kwang-Do is a practical form of self-defense taught in Powder Springs. The instructor is Master Beverly S. Busker, a fifth black belt with 20 years of experience, a degree in physical education, and the only female in the world to hold this title in Choi Kwang-Do. This form of self-defense is taught in "a safe, non-competitive environment, emphasizing basic family values and character development."

Register in person with this instructor for a 2-week free trial. Fees are $99 per month for unlimited classes.
