Frost, Wind Advisories Issued

The National Weather Service says temperatures could drop to between 33 and 36 degrees overnight.

With temperatures predicted to drop to between 33 and 36 degrees overnight, the National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for Cobb, Douglas and several other Georgia counties.

“A frost advisory means that frost is possible,” a statement on the weather service’s website reads. “Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.” 

Also in effect is a wind advisory, which will cease at 8 p.m. tonight. Winds could climb to between 15 and 25 mph, with possible gusts of 25 to 35 mph.

“Strong winds may knock down tree limbs and displace small objects,” the statement says. “Secure loose outdoor items.”

The advisories come on the heels of the rains and winds that struck the area overnight.

Director Roger Swaim said there could have been some incidents resulting from the wind on private property. But as far as public facilities and roads are concerned, there wasn’t any damage.

“I guess we dodged a bullet,” said Swaim, whose retirement was announced at .

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office, who said he was not permitted to give his name, said about 1.4 inches of rain fell in the metro Atlanta area. Winds could have reached as high as 60 mph, he added.

The weather service's forecast, listed below, shows chances for rain returning Friday and continuing through at least Monday. 

Wednesday: Widespread frost before 9 a.m. Otherwise sunny, with a high near 72. 

Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 42. 

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 77.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. 

Friday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. 

Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. 

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. 

Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 59. 

Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. 

Sunday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. 

Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 77.
