Huge Church Consignment Sale in Powder Springs Begins Thursday

Also, a free program next Tuesday in Lithia Springs is designed to equip students to better protect themselves from becoming crime victims.

We're all watching our family budgets these days. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us make our dollars as valuable as possible.

Here are some that will hopefully stretch your dollar to the max:

1. Children's Consignment Sale

Deal: The McEachern Twice Blessed Children's Consignment Sale will begin Thursday and continue through part of Saturday. Many items sell for half price on Saturday. Continuing to expand, these sales are held each spring and fall. No strollers allowed due to fire safety codes.

Hours: Thursday, 5 p.m. to 9 pm.; Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

2. Free Crime Prevention Program

Deal: Children's advocate and author J. Tom Morgan will speak at Lithia Springs High School at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. This free program for students and their parents is designed to help young people avoid becoming victims or perpetrators of crimes. He also will inform teens on Georgia laws that affect them. The first 100 families who sign in will receive a free copy of Morgan's book, Ignorance Is No Defense: A Teenager's Guide to Georgia Law. 

An attorney, Morgan is the former district attorney for DeKalb County who is a nationally recognized expert on child protection. The program is being presented due to a BRIDGES Smaller Learning Communities Grant.

3. McDonald's Grand Opening in next-door Austell

Deal:  A free concert will be among Saturday's festivities at the grand opening of the new Austell McDonald's. Cupid "of the world-famous line dance hit 'The Cupid Shuffle'" will be the guest artist at 2 p.m. Cupid has 9.7 million views on YouTube of his AsylumRecordsTV official music video.

Moonwalks, games and prizes will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Actually opening a few weeks ago, this McDonald's has no Playplace but does have free WiFi.

4. Career Fair in Douglas County

Deal: A free Career Fair will be held in Douglasville on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will be presented by the Women's Entrepreneurial Exchange to help bridge the gap between employers and potential employees.

5. Free Summer Camp Expo

Deal: A Summer Camp Expo will be held Saturday from noon to 3:30 p.m. in Douglas County. This free one-stop shop is designed for parents who are looking for summer camp options for their children, including day/overnight camps, specialty camps and special needs camps. The sponsor is the Douglas/Carroll/Paulding Counties Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
