Get Rid of Unwanted Medicine for Free

Medicine cabinet overflowing with bottles used for a two-day ailment and never again? Need to clear up some room in preparation for sniffle season? Here's your chance to do so safely and responsibly.

Keep Cobb Beautiful and Kaiser Permanente are set to host Medication Disposal Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Cobb Police Precinct 1 at 2380 Cobb Parkway NW, Kennesaw. 

"The largest source of pharmaceutical byproducts in our drinking water comes from the improper disposal of unused medications flushed down the drain," a news release says. "So this event is an excellent opportunity for residents to safely dispose of outdated or unused over-the-counter and prescription medications."

Officials will dispose of the medications in compliance with federal law. Items that will be accepted for free include:

• Liquid and pill medications
• Sharps and needles
• Diabetes materials
• Catheters and tubing

Medicines do not have to be removed from their containers, and labels don't have to be removed. Everything collected will be sealed in boxes immediately and destroyed.
