Historical Society Hosts Annual Fundraiser

Members raised $500 during this year's effort for the Seven Springs Museum.

Members of the Seven Springs Historical Society raised about $500 during their annual fundraiser, held Friday and Saturday at the .

Donated items such as furniture, dining utensils, clothes, books and a variety of vases were sold to benefit the , which is overseen by the historical society.

Money from this year's fundraiser will go toward maintenance supplies, including light bulbs, tissue and a garage door opener, said member Annie Koenke.

"That's good money for us," she said. "The city pays for the museum, but we have to pay for the miscellaneous."

The fundraiser marks the second year society members have donated their personal items to be put up for sale, said member Jim Ross.

"Before that, we held a quilt raffle, and those quilts were homemade, hand-stiched," he said. " used to make us a quilt each year for more than two decades, and that was our main fundraiser."

Society members held their fundraiser in conjunction with the 's yard sale so that each group could complement the other, Ross said.

The Seven Springs Museum houses information and artifacts on the city's history and notable residents. The 39-member historical society has worked through the years to preserve and promote the museum.

"We need to remember those people," said Madeline Moon, a native Powder Springs resident and society member for more than 20 years. "We must preserve the history of this wonderful town."

Lowell Lovinggood is president of the historical society, which was founded by Mary F. Miller.
