Kids Can Meet Douglas Sheriff K-9s Tonight

1. Powder Springs Youth Baseball Kickoff Parade

Where/When: Downtown Powder Springs, Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Why Go: Every year,  organizes a parade to kick-off the upcoming season. This year's parade is set to start around the 4300 block of Marietta Street and proceed toward . The street will be blocked off for the parade. Mayor Pat Vaughn will be throwing out the first pitch. Even if your kids aren't playing in the league, this community event will be tons of fun. 

Price: Free

 

2. All 4 Kids Children's Consignment Sale

Where/When: Cobb County Fairgrounds in Jim Miller Park at 2245 Callaway Road in Marietta; Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Why Go: This sale keeps growing and is now taking place in four locations in the spring and fall. The Lawrenceville and Woodstock/Acworth sales already have taken place, but two more Cobb sales are coming up. Clothes, toys, baby equipment, books, bikes, shoes and linens will be among the many choices. More than 600 family sellers are involved in this week's sale.

Many items will be half price on Saturday.

Be sure to bring a laundry basket with a long belt or rope tied to the basket to help carry your items while you shop. No baskets will be provided. VISA, MasterCard and cash are accepted.

Another way to save is to sign up to volunteer. Some volunteers are paid, and all volunteers get to shop early.

Price: Adults who donate $5 cash for missions will be given early admittance at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. No donations are needed for children to enter. Regularly scheduled times are free to enter.

 

3. "Luck of the Artist," an Art a la Carte Workshop 

Where/When: Art Station-Big Shanty at 2050 Kennesaw Due West Road in Kennesaw; Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Children 2 to 13 years old can make themed projects to take home. Pre-registration is required. Call 770-514-5930.

Price: $5 per child

 

4. Meet and Greet the Douglas County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit

Where/When: Douglas County Sheriff's Department at 6856 Broad Street in Douglasville, tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.

Why Go: Teach your kids about giving to charity by dipping into your piggy bank and bringing change for the Pennies for Puppies Chase Away K-9 Cancer effort. The K-9 demonstration will be educational and entertaining.

Price: Free

 

5. Smoky Mountain Gospel Bluegrass Jamboree

Where/When: New Covenant United Methodist Church at 5960 Highway 5 in Douglasville; food served at 5 p.m., music starts at 6 p.m.

Why Go: Free cornbread, beans and other food will be served, followed by some toe-tapping music.
