New Left-Turn Signal at East-West Connector

Be prepared to see a new flashing yellow left-turn signal at the intersection of East-West Connector and Cooper Lake Road.

In the coming days, you will see a newly installed flashing yellow left-turn signal at the intersection of East-West Connector and Cooper Lake Road.

The yellow arrow over the left-turn lane is part of a new signal display system that indicates to drivers more clearly when they must yield to make a left turn across traffic.

Cobb County officials say the new signal system has proven to help prevent crashes, move more traffic through an intersection and provide additional traffic management flexibility.

According to a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) research, motorists understood more clearly when to yield before turning left when presented with the flashing yellow arrow as opposed to the traditional solid green light.

The new flashing signal at East-West Connector and Cooper Lake is part of a pilot project starting end of the month to monitor the effectiveness of the system.

The signal consists of four phases:

  1. a steady red arrow;
  2. a steady yellow arrow;
  3. a flashing yellow arrow;
  4. a steady green arrow.

When you see a flashing yellow arrow (phase 3), you should yield to oncoming traffic before making a left turn.
