Prizes To Be Given During Coffee Shop's Opening

Also coming up: Six Flags will offer discounts for people who donate canned food to MUST Ministries.

We're all watching our family budgets these days. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us make our dollars as valuable as possible.

Here are some that will hopefully stretch your dollars to the max:

1. Prizes at Coffee Shop's Grand Opening

Deal: Although the business has been open for a few weeks, the official grand opening of  is scheduled for Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Powder Springs Mayor Patricia Vaughn will cut the ribbon at 10 a.m. Live music will begin at 7 p.m.

The celebration will continue through Saturday, when the shop is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

While you do not have to be present to win, you have to wait until Friday to register for the prizes, which include:

  • 32 oz. Bodum Brazil French Press
  • 12 oz. bag Organic Press Jagong Sumarta Coffee Beans (the shop's house blend)
  • Two 16 oz. Eco Copco Travel Coffee mugs
  • Two $10 gift certificates (good for coffee drinks only)
  • Four coffees/drinks of your choice

With the shop's Coffee Buyer card, you receive one free specialty drink of your choice or 10 percent off your lunch order after purchasing 10 specialty drinks.

2. Six Flags Opening Deals

Deal: Six Flags Over Georgia is offering special deals with its season opening on Saturday. Instead of $49.99 for each adult ticket, $20.11 tickets will be available to each person who donates six canned goods for MUST Ministries. Expired or dented canned goods will not be accepted.

Opening weekend hours: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

3. Borders Closing Deals Continue 

Deal: Discounts continue to deepen at that is closing on the East-West Connector in Austell—along with around 200 stores nationwide because of the company's bankruptcy. Instead of 10 to 40 percent off, now the discounts are 30 to 50 percent off, plus 10 percent extra on certain items if you have a Borders Rewards card.

Also for sale are all of the fixtures, furniture and equipment. However, an extra 10 percent "buyers premium" fee will be added to the final cost. You should ask to see the fixture manager or visit www.hilcoffe.com.

No checks are accepted but cash and credit cards are. All sales are final with no returns. When I stopped by on Tuesday, many items were still for sale.

Hours: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

4. Bright Star Consignment Sale

Deal: The Spring Children's Consignment Sale is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday to benefit the Bright Star United Methodist Preschool in Douglasville.

Hours: Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

5. Marietta Consignment Sale

Deal: Another All 4 Kids Children's Consignment Sale is scheduled for this weekend in Marietta. Adults who donate $5 in cash for world missions will be given early admittance on Friday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Umbrella strollers are allowed only on Friday before noon.

Many items are half price on Saturday. No checks will be accepted—only cash and VISA and MasterCard credit or debit cards.

Hours: Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Mt. Paran North Church of God at 1700 Allgood Road in Marietta
