Storms, Severe Weather Possible

Cobb could see thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, and meteorologists say parts of north and central Georgia could see hazardous weather.

Get ready for the sunshine to make way for bleaker weather, and possibly, some rough conditions.

The National Weather Service says West Cobb could see showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., with the chance of precipitation standing at 60 percent. Winds of about 10 mph could gust as high as 20 mph, meteorologists say.

The possibility of rain and storms remains tonight, with the weather experts calling for a 30 percent chance of them before 9 p.m.

Though the storms are not a sure thing, the weather service warns about the chance of severe weather in portions of north and central Georgia, including Cobb County. A hazardous weather outlook issued for the area says central Georgia will likely see the most activity early this afternoon, though rough weather could strike north Georgia later.

The main threats that could come out of the quick-moving line of storms being tracked by meteorologists include winds of 60 mph or greater, heavy rain and frequent lightning. Brief, isolated tornadoes will be possible but are not expected.
