Van Pools Forming in Powder Springs

The vehicles will depart at 6:45 a.m. from the Powder Springs Park and Ride and head to the Perimeter area.

The Perimeter Transportation and Sustainability Coalition is forming commuter van pools that start in Powder Springs and travel to workplaces in the Perimeter area.

Vans depart at 6:45 a.m. from the Powder Springs Park and Ride at 5100 Powder Springs-Dallas Road.

"The van pool program is designed to accommodate commuters who live near each other and travel to the same work area," a news release says. "Typically, a vanpool carries between 8-15 commuters. The cost to ride in the vanpool is divided between the riders and is based on mileage and the number of riders.  Private vanpool providers own, maintain and insure the vehicles."

Those choosing to vanpool are also eligible for Commuter Rewards. The statewide commuter incentive program, administered by the Clean Air Campaign, offers money to reward commuters who ditch the solo drive, including $3 a day and up to $100 and $25 prizes.

Van-poolers unable to catch their normal ride home because of unexpected events—illness, unscheduled overtime, etc.—can register for a free guaranteed ride home from work and use the service up to five times in a year.
