I have an 11 year old son who loves guns, too. And knives. And bows and arrows, and hatchets... I think if you look closely at male DNA, there's some kind of weapons symbol buried in there somewhere. So, I'll be reading... and I'll pass the info on to my boy (who is, btw, a Boy Scout and has been trained properly in the handling of above-mentioned weapons and tools....).

Pam - I'm glad to hear about the properly trained part. Training and safety are very important when you talk about guns or weapons of any kind.

Congradulations on your blog. I am not a big fan of guns but I know there is reason to defend yourself and your family against those who are lacking many thing, including a fear of guns and a respect for people and their property. I think taking a class in gun safety is a very smart thing to do to aviod gun accidents.

Thank goodness we're a family that believes guns are important, my husband as a young boy was taught gun safety, and went hunting with his father for squirrels, rabbits, deer-and He now has many memories of hunting as well as fishing and other things with his late Father, it was apparent once we had a son, my husband wanted to share those same things with his son to make their own memories, thank goodness my husband had took the time to teach responsible gun handling, and to always respect a fire arm at all times, when our son was 16 yrs. He was the victim of a home invasion, and Thank God He knew where to get to a gun, and arm himself, and the robbers did have a weapon, but when they saw the gun( even though He had screamed many times to get out, He had a gun) they still came in, and only STOPPED at the eye vision of the gun, then they turned and ran out, if my son didn't have the gun, more than likely He would have been injured or worse. We are adamant by owning our guns and having protection, along with a security system, and an obedient Dog. Our guns are treated just like our vehicle with respect, no cars kill and no guns kill, its people that kill, I don't want people taking my automobiles or guns or anything else we have. We obey the law at all times, everyone has choices on how they handle themselves with their things, I thank God for protecting my son that day, and also that they didn't break in on another family w/a teenager that had no gun to protect themselves.
