This Wednesday, Jan. 23, the West Cobb Business Association (WCBA) will host a community expo at the Hillgrove High Gymnasium from 4 to 8 p.m. This free event will bring together two of WCBA's major objectives: the support of local schools and school programs as well as local small and large businesses.
This year's expo will shine a light on the Hillgrove High School Band. Although a relatively young band program (less than 10 years), the band recently achieved a fourth-place position in a national band competition in Pontiac, Mich. In addition, in December 63 Hillgrove band members earned a spot in the All State Final Audition and 75 students were named Members or Alternates to the GMEA District 12 Honor Band. The success of these programs, however, depend on fundraising by the Band Booster Club and contributions by local businesses. Attendees at this week's expo will be able to secure the only discounted tickets for Hillgrove Band's 2013 "The Taste of West Cobb" fundraising event this spring.
The WCBA also utilizes the proceeds from the vendor booth fees to support other local school programs and scholarships. With more than seven local restaurants and caterers offering tasty treats to expo attendees and over 40 businesses showcasing their services and products and entertainment, the expo promises to be fun for the entire family. The public will also have the option to visit various booths and collect booth stamps to enter for great door prizes. Over 50 percent of all new businesses fail in the first three years, but with public support for awareness programs like the Community Expo, we may just be able to reduce that percentage.
In a nutshell, if anyone is interested in free food, free entertainment and great door prizes while helping the band program and local business, then the place to be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. is the Hillgrove High School Gymnasium for 2013's West Cobb Community Expo.
