Funeral Set for Paulding Man Shot by Police

Funeral arrangements have been made for a Hiram man who died Wednesday after being shot by police who were at his home on a drug search warrant.

The family of Danny Hammett, 60, will hold visitation at Clark Funeral Home in Hiram today from 4 to 8 p.m. Hammett’s funeral is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Police said Hammett was shot once after he raised his hands up in an aggressive manner while holding a black shiny object, later determined to be a canister of pepper spray. Read more...

Cartersville Kmart Set to Close

While it survived an earlier round of store closings, which affected nearby Athens, Buford and Douglasville locations, the Kmart in Cartersville is set to close in January.

The local store employs 74, mostly part-timers, who will receive severance, although some may fill open positions in other stores, the Daily Tribune News reports. Read more...

Suspect Sought in Atlanta Sexual Assaults

Atlanta police on Wedesnday released the sketch of a man they say posed as an undercover police officer and fondled two teenaged girls last month in Lakewood Heights.

The victims, 16 and 17, told police they were leaving the Lakewood Amphitheatre after a Sept. 15 concert and needed to use the restroom. Do you recognize the man in the sketch?

Men Fire Pistol In Decatur Street Robbery

A taxi driver said two men fired a pistol and robbed him the night of Oct. 9 after he dropped off a fare in a Decatur neighborhood.

The Rapid Taxi driver said he picked up a woman at the Kensington Marta station and drove her to the 100 block of Greenwood Avenue. She got out and went inside, saying she'd obtain money to pay the driver from her sister. Read more...

Man Crashes Stolen Truck Into Tree During Police Pursuit

Within minutes of receiving a report Tuesday that a Toyota Tundra had been stolen, Oconee County Sheriff's deputies had handcuffs on a 20-year-old Comer man.

The call came in just after 5 p.m. with information from the victim that the truck was headed toward Mars Hill Road, according to a news release. Deputies spotted it as it approached Butler’s Crossing.

The driver tried to elude deputies but ended up crashing into a tree. Read more...
