Bert Brown originally hoped to have the $3.5 million Governors Gun Club in Powder Springs finished by June, but that was if construction had started immediately after .
He's now shooting for August or September as details are being further hashed out with the bank and the city. And as for the groundbreaking ceremony, there isn't a set date yet.
"We’re getting really close," said Brown, business development manager for the Acworth-based EGAD Architectural and Engineering, which specializes in gun ranges. "It’s just hard to say whether we’re four weeks or six weeks away” from the groundbreaking.
Meanwhile, those who are ready to get their feet in the door will have their first chance to purchase charter range memberships this Saturday at the GASCI Outdoor Show and Banquet. The event, running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is at the Georgia Internaional Convention Center off Interstate 85 at Exit 72 (see attached flyer for more details).
There are different levels of membership, which include access to a lounge area, lockers and priority on any waiting list to shoot. Memberships won't be required for those simply wanting to use the range.
The roughly 20,000-square-foot facility will be located at the corner of Sterlingbrooke Drive and Highway 278 and will be one of only four in the area. There will be 16 shooting lanes, a 35-yard archery range, firearm sales .
Brown said the height of the building has been raised from the original plans to 22 feet to give it a Bass Pro Shop look (see attached photos).
Kennesaw is also at the intersection of Kennesaw Due West Road and Cobb Parkway.
