Powder Springs Paramedic School Under Investigation

One student of ProMedics EMS Academy told WSB-TV he paid $5,000 for a six-month training program, but more than a year later, he hasn't been able to schedule a part of the training.

A Powder Springs paramedic school is under investigation by the Georgia Department of Public Health after a "large number" of students complained to the agency, WSB-TV reports.

One student of ProMedics EMS Academy told the TV station he paid $5,000 for a six-month training program, but more than a year later, he hasn't been able to schedule a part of the training.

Dr. Patrick O'Neal with the Georgia Department of Public Health told WSB-TV: "The red flags were that there were a large number of individuals who were complaining to us and who were concerned that they were out a lot of money."

The owner of ProMedics, Melvin Teet, told the Marietta Daily Journal that the state altering its regulations is the cause of the problems.

“I think is very unfair that our school has been singled out for these new requirements, and it is unreasonable to implement new requirements such as these without sufficient time to be prepare to be in compliance,” he told the newspaper.

Teet said his school is still open, with 15 students, but his staff, which was initially at 12, is down to just him.

The school is located in the shopping center at 3217 New Macland Road.

Teet's online bio says he has 23-plus years of EMS experience, including serving as the chief training officer for Grady EMS from 2005 to 2010. It also says he has taught courses for area colleges.
