Class Size Inequity: A Response to Mr. Dillon

Mr. Dillon, Director of Communications for Cobb County School District, has responded to my claim that class sizes are inequitable across district schools with misdirection, fuzzy thinking, vague possibilities, and factual errors.  It is not entirely clear whether the district agrees that they have a class size inequity problem or not.  On the one hand, Mr. Dillon spends a great deal of time picking apart the claim of inequity.  Yet, On the other hand, we are also told that it will take three years to fix.

Of all the statements made by Mr. Dillon, the most troubling is the one where we are informed that no school's average class size ever exceeds the waiver maximum (i.e., state maximum + 8).  This achievement may warm the heart of a statistician, but it is of little consolation to the student in a supersized class.  It is of little consolation to a kindergartener at Austell Elementary.  After all, a child goes to kindergarten just once.
