Three Explorers were recently honored at this months City Council Meeting. These three Explorers, Joshua Brady, Stephon Wosley and Zack Johnson were among twenty four Explorers locally who recently attended the Georgia Law Enforcement Explorer Academy.

This was a 6 day, 5 night intensive Explorer training which focused on the fundamentals of law enforcement, team building, leadership skills and character development in a military boot camp type setting. The academy concluded with graduation on June 22nd.

These three young men were honored by the Mayor and Council Members and awarded a special Proclamation for their acheivement.  It was noted by the Mayor and Council Members that they were very proud of all the young men and women who participate in the Powder Springs Explorers program. In other news, the Council voted not to raise the millage rate and therefore City taxes will not increase.  It has remained at it's current rate of 8.5 mills since 2005.

It was noted that due to decreased home values the City will actually collect $253,000 less this year than last year. The City has been able to absorb these costs with budget cuts and by the fact that the City has a healthy reserve fund.
