Representative Wilkerson Working With the Community

State Representative David Wilkerson discusses his role as our State Representative.

As a state representative, I have the distinct pleasure of serving my community, helping our fellow neighbors, and doing my best to make a difference. Since the start of the 2011 Legislative Session, it’s an honor to serve my constituents and represent them to the best of my abilities under the Gold Dome.

Our legislative session runs from January through late March and I am always fighting for legislation that positively impacts our community and the state of Georgia. From education issues, to strengthening our families and communities, and helping create economic opportunities throughout Georgia, I, along with my colleagues am there to represent you, your families, and neighbors and it’s important we do the job right. It’s a significant part of my job as a legislator, but pales in comparison to the bigger and more significant responsibility to serve my constituents. From simple issues to complex problems, it’s my pleasure to assist my neighbors and find solutions to whatever difficulties they may face.

Recently, I had a constituent reach out to me in desperate need of help for her child. My office immediately went to bat for this individual and didn’t stop until we were able to get her the help her child needed. It’s that distinct honor, the ability to help those in need that drives me as a legislator. Voting and debating legislation is an incredible opportunity and I while I enjoy every minute under the Gold Dome, ensuring that my community is a better place is my motivation and is the heart and soul of my life as an elected official.

To keep our district apprised of all that’s happening, I hold town hall meetings, visit schools, and attend community meetings in an effort to stay connected to our community, hear everyone’s concerns and help bridge the gap between our state capitol and the community I serve. I was elected to serve you, which means I need to hear your concerns so I can better represent our district at the capitol and at home.

My last town hall event was on March 12 at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center in Powder Springs at 6:30 p.m. We discussed the 2013 legislative session, I listened to the comments and concerns of our fellow neighbors, and we focused on how we can make a difference. I will be scheduling my next town hall meeting soon. I hope you will join me as these are wonderful evenings that are the cornerstone of our democracy.
