Cobb Beautification Effort To Begin

Those participating in the local Great American Cleanup program could win prizes.

1. Douglas Commission meeting. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to have a work session on Monday at 10 a.m. followed by a legislative meeting Tuesday at 10 a.m. Both meetings are at the Douglas County Courthouse at 8700 Hospital Drive in Douglasville. 2. Work session rescheduled. The Powder Springs City Council was scheduled to have a work session on Wednesday. But because one member will be out of town and the council will be traveling to a meeting with the Atlanta Regional Commission the next day, the work session has been rescheduled for March 7 at 4 p.m.

3. Weather. Except for likely rain on Monday and a chance Friday, the forecast from the National Weather Service shows some beautiful weather this week.

  • Monday—Showers likely with thunderstorms possible during the day. Winds could get as high as 30 mph. High: 76/ Low: 40
  • Tuesday—Sunny. High: 65/Low: 37

4. Bingo Bash. The bingo competition is scheduled for Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Freeman Poole Senior Center at 4025 South Hurt Road Southwest in Smyrna. The cost is $3 for Cobb residents and $4 for those living outside the county. For further details and reservations, call the center at 770-801-3400.

5. Great American Cleanup. The effort started by Keep America Beautiful in 1999 is the largest litter prevention and beautification effort in the country.  It formally starts Tuesday and lasts through May 31. In 2009, volunteers contributed 5.2 million hours to beautification improvement efforts in more than 32,000 communities nationwide. An application to participate in Keep Cobb Beautiful's local effort, which could lead to prizes, is attached to this article.
