Council Work Session, More Heat and Summer Fun

Here's everything you need to know today, June 1, 2011.

1) The Powder Springs City Council will meet today at 5 p.m. for a work session that could involve the upcoming budget. The meeting will be in the second floor conference room, Town Hall, 4484 Marietta Street Powder Springs, GA 30127.

2) Locomotive history will come alive at Mountain View Regional Library in Marietta at 11 a.m. today with a special presentation for preschoolers. Judy Parker, early childhood educator at the Southern Museum, will present a short story about Owney, the canine mascot of Railway Mail Service, and his life on the railroad. The program is free and designed for children ages three to five and their caregivers. Mountain View is located at 3320 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta. For more information, call 770-509-2725.

3) It's going to be another scorcher with sunny skies and a high near 97 today, according to the National Weather Service. A low will be about 67.

4) The Atlanta Regional Commission invites Cobb residents to help shape the future of the Atlanta region by participating in the formal comment period for PLAN 2040. ARC will accept public comment until June 20. People may participate in the sixth and final online public meeting at their convenience before June 20.
