Flood Watch To Continue Through Thursday

Cobb, Douglas and most other counties in North Georgia remain under a flood watch for today and through Thursday afternoon, as heavy rains that moved into the area Tuesday evening are overflowing rivers, lakes and streams.

The National Weather Service, which issued flood warnings for Fulton and Gwinnett counties, also issued a wind advisory that expired at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday and included Cobb and Douglas. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph were accompanying the storm. 

An estimated two inches of rain has already fallen throughout North Georgia, and another 1 to 2 inches is expected today and into this evening. Temperatures are expected to reach into the low 60s today. 

The forecast for the northern and central part of the state calls for a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms through tonight and into Thursday, with winds up to 20 mph in some areas. Low temperatures are expected in the mid-40s.

Thursday's forecast calls for a slight chance of showers and even partly sunny skies in some areas, but with temperatures reaching a high of only 49. 

The extended weekend forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s.
