House Hunt: Homes With Disability Features
Each week, House Hunt features homes for sale in West Cobb, Paulding and Douglas.
Homes that are handicapped accessible are in huge demand, mostly because Baby Boomers are getting older and times have changed. They are certainly not going straight to a nursing home after a few years of retirement, but instead will live active lives and maintain social ties.
There are two options available when the time comes: senior-oriented communities or customization and upgrades to a traditional home. Senior communities are built with aging in mind—being handicapped accessible is a top priority, but not everyone wants to live in one of these communities. Many prefer to customize a home to suit their individual needs. House Hunt researched AOL Real Estate’s MLS listings and found some lovely homes in traditional neighborhoods described as being equipped with disability features and handicapped accessible.
One of the featured homes is holding an open house Sunday, March 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. Located on Sentry Ridge in the Lake Mill Community of Dallas, this two-story Cape Cod-style home is in pristine condition and offered at $125,000. Similarly equipped homes, ranging in price from $118,000 to $189,900, are presented here from Hiram, Douglasville, Powder Springs and Lithia Springs.
