Free College Fair Set fot Oct. 27

The Turner Chapel College Fair has become a sought after event among college admissions representatives, resource providers, and most importantly, students and their parents.

The Cathedral of Turner Chapel AME Church in Marietta, under the pastorship of Rev. Dr. Kenneth E. Marcus, with Rev. Don Ezell serving as Youth Pastor, is a church that believes in giving back to the community, particularly the youth.  Perhaps one of the biggest ways that it has accomplished this over the past few years has been through organizing and hosting an annual college fair.

Since its inception in October 2010, the Turner Chapel College Fair has become a much sought after event among college admissions representatives, resource providers, and most importantly, students and their parents.  Last year over 1000 students and their parents, including some who traveled from Alabama and South Carolina, attended the college fair.

A large part of the attraction for attendees is the calibre of participating schools. With schools such as Marietta's own Life University and Fortis College, Harvard University, Auburn University, Syracuse University, Spelman College, United States Military Academy at West Point, Duke University, Howard University, and Louisiana State University, to name a few of the over fifty schools confirmed this year, it is understandable to see why it continues to attract a large number of students and their parents, and this year will not be an exception.  At last year's fair, some eager students and their families began arriving up to one hour before the fair began, patiently waiting in line until the fair started promptly at noon.

In addition to the participating schools, there will be information available at various workshops presented during the fair, and from resources such as Marietta's own The College Planning Institute and Pathways Educational Services, The Gates Millennium Scholars Program, and The Georgia Student Finance Commission, to name a few.

The college fair will be held at the church, located at 492 N. Marietta Pkwy, Marietta, GA.  Some of the schools will be waiving application fees for students who apply during the event. For more information, and for organizations who will be bringing groups of 10 or more, please contact Mrs. Dawn Hoskin, College Fair Committee Chairperson, at 770-891-0861 or email tcc.collegefair@gmail.com.
